Greg Lincoln-3rd Ward

Mr. Hottendorf,

Honestly, your first letter was very off-putting with the thinly veiled threat of "We will interpret any failure to respond...as an indication of support of the status quo regarding rent control in Hoboken." The aggressive tone of your letter is not very inviting for responses, to say the least.

You clearly have your agenda in favor of one side of the rent control debate, while my position is that both owners and renters deserve the consideration of the city council members. I believe that the current laws are better than they were before, but certain aspects will need to be identified, addressed, and revised in the near future. I am not in favor of decontrolling units, as you seem to be suggesting.

The record-keeping and enforcement clearly need to be modernized, and this should be a priority of city hall.

I am open to hearing the concerns of both renters and landlords. Both constituent groups have rights, and they need a city council representative that doesn't have an agenda in favor of one group or the other. As I am neither a renter nor a landlord, I can provide that. My opponent cannot.

Sincerely,
Greg Lincoln
